The project Database of Translations of Czech Literature into Spanish, supported by the Grant Agency of Charles University with the number 110122, was carried out in the years 2021-2023, in cooperation with the principal investigator PhDr. Mgr. Karolína Lochman Strnadová (data collection and verification, design of database functions), the co-investigator Bc. Michal Penc (coordination of technical and graphical support of the database) and supervisor Mgr. Miguel José Cuenca Drouhard, Ph.D. (data collection and verification). All authors study/work at the Institute of Translatology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University.
The TraduCzechLit database contains bibliographic data on translations of Czech literature (in 2023, limited to translations into Spanish) and allows online searches based on specified criteria. Access to the database is linguistically exclusive - it contains data only on translations of literary works originally written in Czech. In its initial phase, it includes data solely on translations published in book form, without any restrictions regarding the place (country) or year of publication. The database was released at the end of 2023, with the original dataset primarily comprising translations published until 2022.
Missing and questionable data were verified using electronically available paratexts and also directly from physical copies of translations stored in the publicly available and archival collections of the National Library of the Czech Republic, the National Library of Spain, and the National Library of Mexico.
The database is conceived as a practical tool for research work and as a source of information. The authors are aware of the limitations and risks associated with the chosen method of historiographical work using paratexts, as well as the potential incompleteness of the data. The intention is to continually update and expand the database to include other target languages. Therefore, the authors welcome all potential contributors who would like to collaborate in adding or editing the data (see Join us).
